A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Greetings Sun Valley Community,
Congratulations on an incredible week of in-person learning on Happy Lane with ALL our students, Kindergarten through Fifth Grade! It truly was a pleasure to bring this campus back to life with the laughs and chatter of our prized students. Thank you families for all your hard work behind the scenes to prepare your children for a different educational environment. Students wore their masks with few complaints and did their best to maintain social distance. Kudos to all the parents and caregivers that have arrived with their own masks and maintained social distance. You are great role models for our students and we appreciate your willingness to follow the guidelines. Extra compliments to our families for quickly learning how to complete the daily health screening on CrisisGo. As a reminder, please complete the screening prior to 8 am. If your child in the PM cohort has a change in health status, you can go through the email link or QR code to update the questions.
As a community, we have worked hard to lower the COVID-19 rates locally to the point that we could safely reopen our schools. Voluntary practices, like face coverings and limiting social interactions outside the household, continue to be the best measures for protecting our families and communities against the spread of the virus. Thank you for remaining vigilant for the safety of our students, teachers, and staff.
With Thanksgiving upon us, we know that many families plan to travel and celebrate with family and friends. Please review the guidelines shared earlier this week and re-evaluate any plans to travel outside the Bay Area this holiday season:
Travel and gathering indoors with extended family and friends increases the chance of getting and spreading COVID-19. Staying home with members of your immediate family or household is the best way to protect yourself and others.
In-person gatherings should be small, short, stable (no more than three households over an extended period) and outdoors.
Nonessential travel, including holiday travel, is not recommended. Travel outside the Bay Area will increase chances of infection and potentially spread the virus. For those who are traveling, there are tips to help avoid catching COVID-19 or spreading it to fellow travelers. Those traveling outside the Bay Area are strongly recommended to self-quarantine for 14 days upon return if activities while traveling created a higher risk of getting COVID-19.
Many of our Sun Valley staff members have reflected on their own plans and changed course to follow the current guidelines. We kindly ask that all members of our Sun Valley community reconsider any plans that may bring unnecessary risk to our school. If you must travel, please email the classroom teacher and principal to inquire about independent study options during quarantine.
As a way to promote our enrichment programs and to showcase student art, Youth in Arts is requesting artwork submissions.
